Time for Nisbett to hang up the mic?

One of the features from the NZ vs South Africa test match a few weeks back was some shocking commentary mixups from Grant Nisbett. During that match I counted at least 4 instances where he got players mixed up or utterly wrong during his calling of the match. The best one was when he credited a run to Joe Rokocoko who wasn’t even in the squad due to a 6 month layoff recovering from surgery. It seems that we’re in for a repeat performance this week in the New Zealand vs Australia match. So far he’s managed to confuse...

Call me pedantic..

..but the first thing I thought when I saw this was whether or not the apostrophe is valid in the context "AB'S". Tags: Rugby

Keeping with the Rugby theme

Congratulations to Auckland, who beat Taranaki last night at Eden Park to advance to the next round of the Air New Zealand Cup. Although it wasn't an overly convincing victory, it'll do.. I had moments early on where I really thought Taranaki were going to beat us. It'd definitely be interesting if the remaining teams all get their All Black's back for the final games of the competition. Either way, good luck Auckland for the rest of the competition. Don't get discouraged by the pathetic crowd turn out, there are still some latte drinkers who want to...

Post RWC musings

Although this site has a category for Rugby posts, it's not a category I use very often. However, now feels like a time to use it. Firstly, the All Blacks really didn't play their best game against the French - they didn't deserve to win based on that performance alone, however they didn't really deserve to lose either. At the risk of sounding like a sore loser, the level of influence that a referee has over a game really needs to be looked into. The binning of McAlister in the second half had all of the commentators stunned (although to be...

The start of the Super 14 Rugby Season is upon us!

Seeing as I started a category for Rugby, so it would be negligent of me not to comment briefly on the first Super 14 matches last night. First, it's exactly as we thought it would be to have teams minus their 'rested' All Blacks. NPC rugby is always a bit weird when you have teams missing touring players, and it's weirder still when they return - some manage to integrate back in well, others don't. Previously it was nice that Super rugby was immune to this. Those players will of course be back playing soon enough, but it...

Microsoft AJAX Extensions: Sys.Debug is null or not an object

One of the breaking changes which was made with the 1.0 release of the Microsoft Ajax Extensions was the renaming of the 'Debug' class to 'Sys.Debug' for reasons of compatiability with other frameworks. Breaking changes like this can often be a source of frustration..

Simple ASP.NET Character Counter

A textbox character counter is a pretty simple piece of functionality, and there's a lot of different ways to apply one to your application. The following method is nice and simple, and can be done using only clientside JavaScript if required, or combined with server side code in order to create a more dynamic effect
