Back on the train

I'm back to taking the train after driving for a couple of months. It looks like the reliability issues have gotten a bit better since their alltime February/March lows, however there are still delays and they're still (apparently) being caused by signal failures. It looks like most of the major earthworks have been completed along the western line, and so from here on in things should be getting better.

One thing which has surprised me a lot over the past few days commute is that the trains seem noticably busier. I'd actually expected their use to maybe drop off a bit after the dire state of the line in February/March, but it seems that hasn't happened. Here's hoping that things continue to improve from hereon out.

So the train... Well my 10c worth. It sucks ! Had to get from Mt Eden to New Lynn last night and for no apparent reason the train didn't turn up for a good 30 minutes.

The Busses have nice digital displays at the stops telling you eta's etc, but nothing like for the trains ? surley it's alot easier to tell where a train is than a bus !!

On the positive side, no one came around for a ticket so it was free :-)

The lack of ETA indication for the trains is a real pain. At the moment I'm catching them home fromBritomart, which means at least I know when/why if there are delays. It sure beats standing on the platform waiting for the SMS alert service to kick in..

And yes, the free rides are pretty common! Makes it even harder to justify buying a monthly ticket.
