This change in parameter brings the XP version of the RDP client in line with the Windows 2008 / Vista versions. Apparently you don't have a console anymore on Windows 2008 server, especially with the headless/minimal installations with no GUI.

Oh, and seriously you've only just upgraded to SP3 now? It came out MONTHS ago, we came across this change in RDP Client parameters last year...

Actually no, I haven't upgraded to XP SP3 now, not anywhere, not at all :)

But what I have done is helped clients, friends, and relatives get their machines up and running after SP3 made them stop working. I'm happy with Vista for now - which is something I never thought I'd hear myself say.

The .NET 2.0 framework changed the way clientside JavaScript is delivered to the browser. Previously, ASP.NET 1.1 used the aspnet_client directory whereas now 2.0 uses WebResource.axd.

One of the breaking changes which was made with the 1.0 release of the Microsoft Ajax Extensions was the renaming of the 'Debug' class to 'Sys.Debug' for reasons of compatiability with other frameworks. Breaking changes like this can often be a source of frustration..
