Monthly tab roundup for December

I think I need a new name for the tab roundup in the New Year – any suggestions?

Here’s some of the interesting links I’ve got floating around at the moment. This month they’re a little early (for obvious reasons!).

jQuery

Disable right click using jQuery – the title pretty much says it all. I don’t remember needing to do this, but pretty sure something will pop up eventually.

jQuery Code Snippets for Visual Studio a large collection of handy VS snippets, very useful for anyone using Visual Studio and jQuery. Full list of snippets available here.

GTD

Pocketmod is a small piece of paper you print out and fold – you might have seen it before as it has been around for a while. However v2 lets you customise your pocketmod via a nifty flash app.

Teux Deux is a stylish looking todo application - “The idea was to build a bare-bones, but visually compelling and highly usable to-do app based on Tina’s personal ideal work-flow”. It looks nice.

Misc

I recently installed Mindscape LightSpeed and have started to put it through its paces. I’ll be writing more about LightSpeed soon.

Configuring Console2 as a VS2008 command line – I’ve been doing a bit of work tweaking some MSBuild scripts, and while doing that work I was experimenting with Console2 as it’s pretty shiny. Adding a shortcut to a VS2008 command line is icing on the cake.

Lucidica for Google Reader is one for OSX users, and is a way to make Google Reader look “more mac like”.

Thread: Apache behind IIS7 using ARR – I still want to get TRAC to work on IIS7 in a way which I don’t hate, and this post is the closest I’ve found to hinting that I should be able to do so.

TemplateMonster.com - Silverlight templates. Both intro templates and site templates are available. Could be useful if you’re backing Silverlight. I’d love to see some stats on what the percentage of Silverlight penetration is these days.

About me

My name is Ross Hawkins and I'm a developer, consultant, business owner and writer based in Auckland, New Zealand (pictured below!). My current work revolves around ASP.NET, C#, jQuery, Ajax, SQL Server, and a mix of other Microsoft development technologies.

I also have about 15 years of experience with IBM Lotus Notes/Domino and associated technologies. While Notes/Domino is no longer my primary focus I still like to dabble and keep my skills up to date.

I own and run 2 businesses - Hawkins Consulting Services, and Ignition Development.

Microsoft AJAX Extensions: Sys.Debug is null or not an object

One of the breaking changes which was made with the 1.0 release of the Microsoft Ajax Extensions was the renaming of the 'Debug' class to 'Sys.Debug' for reasons of compatiability with other frameworks. Breaking changes like this can often be a source of frustration..

Simple ASP.NET Character Counter

A textbox character counter is a pretty simple piece of functionality, and there's a lot of different ways to apply one to your application. The following method is nice and simple, and can be done using only clientside JavaScript if required, or combined with server side code in order to create a more dynamic effect
